Studies and education
The Research Team takes actions to popularise learning among various age groups. We organise:
– lectures,
– talks,
– workshops.
The Team constitutes the core of the teaching staff of undergraduate and postgraduate studies of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology.
First degree program
The undergraduate programme fulfils academic premises both theoretical and applied. During their studies, the students search for answers to the question of “how many ways there are of being human?”, in relation to social changes and power systems, especially the processes of urbanisation, migration, globalisation, and mediatisation. The major areas of interest include: language as social action, gender, ethnic and national identity, religion, cultural heritage, new media. As a result, ethnology contributes to the understanding of such issues as social inequalities, the politics of identity, and ecology. The students become familiar not only with the functioning of traditional or non-European societies, but also with the mechanisms of all cultures. Combining the historical perspective with the orientation towards current time makes ethnologists and cultural anthropologists the “translators of culture”.
Postgraduate studies
Postgraduate studies aim to expand the ethnological and anthropological knowledge even further. The teaching programme emphasises the shaping of social competence and the ability of functioning in the multi-cultural, multidenominational, and multi-lingual environment. The studied notions include the theory of the anthropological aspects of culture as well as the knowledge on the practical possibilities of applying ethnology and cultural anthropology in various professions, e.g. in education, journalism, business or in the creative sector. The educational content encompasses the issues of the ethnological interpretation of socio-cultural phenomena and the anthropology of contemporary culture as well as the notions of cultural ecology and applied anthropology. Students gain in-depth knowledge on the main methodological positions of modern cultural anthropology and its practical application in planning their own career paths. They learn the most significant notions and issues regarding man’s entanglement in the cultural patterns, social interactions and biological/natural factors. In terms of theory, the students get acquainted with the semantic, model-based explanations and interpretations of culture.
